Sports Massage can:
    . maintain the body generally in better condition;
    . prevent injuries and loss of mobility and flexibility;
    . cure and restore mobility to injured muscle tissue;
    . boost performance;
    . extend the overall life of your sporting career.

Physiological effects of sports massage:

     Pain reduction  Tension and waste products in muscles can often cause pain. Massage helps reduce this in many ways including releasing the bodies endorphins.
     Relaxation  Muscles relax when internal heat is generated, internal circulation boosted and their fibers stretched. Mechanoreceptors which sense touch, pressure, tissue length and warmth are stimulated causing a reflex relaxation.

Psychological effects of massage:

     Anxiety reduction  through relaxation, anxiety is reduced.
     Mental Invigoration  Brisk sports massage, performed prior to exercise can stimulate the mind in preparation for performance.

How Sports Massage Works:

     The strokes of sports massage suck fluid through blood and lymph vessels by creating a traveling vacuum. Thus replenishing tight or damaged muscle tissue which will have squeezed fluids out, depriving themselves of vital nutrients and energy needed for repair.

     Regular deep sports massage increases the permeability in tissue membranes enabling fluids and nutrients to pass through. This helps remove waste products such as lactic acid and encourage the muscles to take up oxygen and nutrients which help them recover more quickly

     Regular sports massage will stretch tissues differently to the usual methods by stretching the bundles of muscle fibers lengthwise as well as sideways. Massage will also stretch the sheath or fascia that surrounds the muscle, releasing any tension or pressure build up.

     Regular sports massage will break down scar tissue that is the result of previous injuries or trauma which has led to inflexibility in tissues such as muscle, tendon and ligament leaving them prone to injury and pain.

     Regular sports massage will improve the tissue elasticity of a hard trained structures which will have become stiff and inelastic. Thus allowing improved results from training.

     Regular sports massage will increase the blood flow to tissues by dilating and stretching the vessels allowing the blood to pass through more easily.
